No. 3 Leilehua overwhelms Moanalua, 40-7

WAHIAWA- Quarterback Kenan Sadanaga overcame three interceptions with 36-of-46 passing for 386 yards and five TDs to lead Leilehua over Moanalua, 40-7, in a quarterfinal of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red tournament on a rainy Friday night at Hugh Yoshida Stadium. The Mules (8-0-1), ranked third in the ScoringLive/OC 16 Power Rankings, will play No. 2 Kahuku (8-1) in a semifinal Friday at Aloha Stadium. The No. 9 Na Menehune (5-5) are done for the season.

The quarterfinal anticipated to be the most competitive turned into a rout. Na Menehune went toe-to-toe with the Beasts of the East - Farrington and Kahuku - in close regular-season losses. But the Best in the West - Leilehua is the top seed of its division - might be in store for something more.

The Mules succeeded in all phases of the game, breaking open a 10-0 halftime lead with a 21-point third quarter, as the rout was ignited when Allen Racette returned the second half kickoff 89 yards to the Moanalua 2. A penalty against Leilehua backed it to the 7, where Sadanaga hit Mykal Peyton for TD just 20 seconds into the half. The Mules, who have shown creativity on special teams all season, converted the 2-point conversion on a pass from holder Andrade to Cole DeCorte to make it 18-0.

Na Menehune finally got on the board after Momiyama's missed 46-yard field goal try went for a touchback. Two plays later, Dillon Turk struck
Anthony Bowen on an 80-yard TD pass to pull Moanalua to 25-7.
