Redhawks fly away from Dreher
The Westwood Redhawks got a game-high 19 points from Jason Frederick to defeat the Dreher Blue Devils 58- 32 on December 12 in the eighth game of the Bojangles Bash at Ridge View High School.
The Blue Devils got their one and only lead of the game at 3- 2 after Simon Grant drilled a 3- pointer with 5:48 remaining in the first period, but the Redhawks countered with a Todd Corley jumper and never looked back. Dreher got as close as 6-5 and 8- 7 after jumpers from Grant and Albert Walker, but five quick points from Frederick and a shot from Terrence Barnes gave the Redhawks a 15-11 lead going into the second period.
Westwood outscored the Blue Devils 16-10 in the second getting points from six different players. Barnes led the way with five, and the Redhawks led 31-21 at the half.
Westwood started the second half with a 12- 2, and after Frederick’s 3- pointer at the 1:47 mark of the third period, the Redhawks’ advantage grew to 43-22. A free throw from Grant and the end of the period briefly stopped the Westwood momentum, but not for long. The lead steadily grew to 28 points after a couple of free throws from Xavier Dobey, but Dreher got the last bucket on a jumper from T. J. Brown to provide the final score.
